Varieties of Silk

The most common silkworms include the mulberry and Bombyx Mori. However, there are other types of silkworms, other insects are also known to produce different varieties of silk yarn. The most popular fabric is from wild silk which is also the most expensive.  The high cost is due to the difficulty of obtaining the silk yarn compared to the commercially produced silk yarn. The wild silk is known to produce the most elegant saree due to its ravishing texture.

Besides the wild silk, there is also the Tussar silk which is another type of silk that is obtained from non-mulberry worms. We also have the Muga silk which is also popular due to its irresistible golden-yellow yarn.
