Symptoms of 2nd Month Pregnancy

When you are 2nd Month Pregnancy you can feel everything. Overwhelmed, elated, worried, happy, a mix of those and more. This is part of pregnancy.

Monthly Pregnancy Symptoms: 2nd Month Pregnancy

In the second month of your pregnancy, there are a number of common pregnancy symptoms, such as:

  • Emotional and mood swings
  • (Morning) nausea
  • Cravings and Aversions
  • Slight swelling of the hands and feet
  • Heartburn and indigestion
  • Constipation
  • Bloated feeling
  • Flatulence
  • Fatigue
  • Dizziness

Although these symptoms are not all equally pleasant, they are part of being pregnant. You may only be bothered by a few.

Mood Swings: One of the reasons for mood swings during pregnancy is that your body is inundated with hormones such as hCG, progesterone, and estrogen. These hormones can also play a role in other pregnancy ailments such as flatulence, constipation, heartburn, dizziness, muscle pain, varicose veins, and changes in your skin pigment (such as pregnancy mask or dark nipples).

Your mood can also be affected by how you feel physically. For example, if you suffer from heartburn and dizziness, it is quite normal to feel emotional or a little depressed now.

(Morning) nausea: You may suffer from (morning) nausea in the first trimester. Although you often have to deal with this in the morning, you can also feel nauseous and vomit at other times of the day. The good news is that second-trimester nausea is usually a thing of the past.

To relieve morning sickness, it is wise to stick to a balanced diet, avoid fatty and spicy foods as much as possible, and eat smaller meals several times a day so that there is always some in your stomach. For example, eat some simple crackers as soon as you wake up to stabilize your blood sugar levels. Rest, drink enough and try sucking or just smelling some lemon wedges.

Cravings: Other symptoms when you are two months pregnant include food cravings and aversions. It has not been proven why you have them and as weird as they may be, they are part of pregnancy. Contact your doctor or midwife if you feel like eating inedible items such as lime or soil.

Fetal development: In the second month of pregnancy, the fetus develops facial features such as the mouth, nose, and tongue. The eyelids cover the eyes and will not open for several months. The base of the ear now grows further into its recognizable shape and very small toenails form. Your little one can also move now, although you won’t feel much of it yet.

By the end of the second month of pregnancy, the organs, skeleton, and limbs are in place. A placenta has formed, which will provide your little one with important nutrients for the remainder of the pregnancy.

Changes in your body: Your body won’t look dramatically different just yet, but your breasts may gain weight and look fuller. Some women may develop red and purple varicose veins at some point, caused by increased hormone levels and blood volume. Getting plenty of exercises can help prevent varicose veins, and in many women, they disappear a few months after giving birth.

The 2nd Month Pregnancy: checklist

  • Appointments: Go to all your prenatal appointments to make sure you stay healthy and your pregnancy is going well. Your healthcare provider can hear the heartbeat of your fetus during this month, often at your first appointment. If you are expecting multiple births there will be more than one heartbeat.
  • Follow a healthy diet: Your doctor or midwife can recommend a nutritious and healthy diet and answer any questions you may have about it.
  • Emotions: In the second month of pregnancy, your mood swings can be quite a rollercoaster ride. Discuss your feelings with other pregnant women or understanding friends and family members.
  • Calculated: If you don’t know your due date, try our Pampers Pregnancy Calculator to calculate when to expect your baby.
