Samsung Galaxy Watch Review
The Galaxy Watch Active is Samsung’s new and cheaper alternative for the $350 Galaxy Watch. The watch packs most of the features that its elder sibling has but looks almost entirely different from what a typical Galaxy Watch looks like. Samsung Galaxy Watch Active Review
The watch is an all screen watch and doesn’t have any sort of rotating dial/bezel like most of the other Samsung watches also unlike the other galaxy watches that were launched with a price of more than $300, the Galaxy Watch Active just costs about $200.
The watch has a simple design and a good battery life but is the watch any better than the other watches in this price segment? Well, we will leave that decision to you but first here’s our full review of Samsung’s Galaxy Watch Active.
Samsung Galaxy Watch Design and Build Quality
The Galaxy Watch Active is really small when we compare it to other watches in the market and comes with a 40 mm case while most of the other watches start at a 42 mm case and that makes it a lot more favorable to people with small wrists. The size isn’t the only thing that’s less, the Galaxy Watch Active is really lightweight and weighs just about 25 grams. Since it’s a Samsung device the screen on the Watch Active is also just excellent.
The screen is a 1.1-inch OLED panel with a 360 x 360 resolution and is surrounded by a large bezel. The bezels are not that noticeable with a black background. The screen is really bright, enough bright that it is visible outdoors. The front of the device is all screen while the back has all the sensors, the Galaxy Watch Active also has Heart Rate sensors. On the right side of the watch are two buttons which help in navigation, the button on the bottom works as a home button while the button on the top acts as a back button, both buttons support the press and hold functionality. The left side of the watch is clean.
There is no speaker on the watch but this watch does house a microphone that lets you command Bixby. Get best rates for Galaxy Watches online with Flipkart Offers applicable without any Coupon Codes.
All-in-all the watch has a solid and premium build, the screen is just amazing but the lack of rotating bezels is still sad. The watch comes with a detachable 20 mm silicon band that fits perfectly and is comfortable for the most part.
Samsung Galaxy Watch Performance and Specifications
The watch is being powered by a Dual-core Exynos 9110 processor that is clocked at 1.15 GHz has 750 MB of RAM and a 4 GB of storage. All of this configuration does a good job of running everything in the watch. The swipes and clicks are smooth there are some issues with the rise to wake gesture though but that could hardly be blamed on the processor. The Galaxy Watch Active is running Samsung’s Tizen OS 4.0 out of the box. The OS feels and looks like wear OS but just a little.
One of the major downfalls of this watch is its compatibility, though the watch is compatible with most of the Android and iOS devices it just works best on Samsung devices. The experience on other android phones is not that smooth and that can be a little annoying while on the other hand if you’re iOS user, the Galaxy Watch Active is just not for you. Many features on the Watch Active don’t work when it’s being used with an Apple device.
Samsung Galaxy Watch Features and Battery Life
The Galaxy Watch Active packs a lot of features. The watch can also be used as a fitness tracker and there are many things the Galaxy Watch Active has that are essential for an ideal fitness tracker. The watch supports NFC which is helpful while making transactions. Samsung Galaxy watch Active also has GPS that is again an essential part of a fitness tracker.
While we are talking about features, we can’t skip the fact that the watch supports wireless charging up to an extent which means if you have got a Galaxy S10 you could just use the reverse charging option and charge the watch. Samsung also claims that the watch is IP68 water resistant which means there should be no problem wearing the watch during a shower or while swimming.
The watch has a 230 mAh battery and the battery life highly depends on your usage but on an average, the watch should get you about 2 days of battery life with medium usage. There is also a battery saver mode provided by Samsung that will considerably increase your watch’s battery life but will cut you on some features.
Verdict
If you are using a Samsung phone user and are looking for a watch that is cheap but packs good features we definitely recommend that you purchase the Galaxy Watch Active but if you are an android user other than Samsung or an iOS user, we think that there are many other options available in the market in the same price range that pack most of the features that the Galaxy Watch Active does.
