Get Rid Of Gallstones
How did this all start?
I belong to a family that never goes to a hospital until bleeds or falls off. So, I ignored all the symptoms. Gradually, this pain felt like a heart attack which would ease in a few minutes.
Continuously, I was fighting with nausea and abdominal cramps. One afternoon at home, I started vomiting and later I collapsed. My husband took me to the nearby clinic, so when I opened my eyes I saw myself in the doctor’s office. After feeling nauseous all day, I woke up at odd hours with abdominal pain.
I was undergoing a normal CT scan and the doctor caught a glimpse of my gallbladder. He noticed some stones and recommended that I have an ultrasound immediately. The ultrasound confirmed that there were three gallstones, one gravel sized and other two slightly greater than the size of a grain. Yes, you heard it right! It was gallstones. The doctor said get the surgery to remove gallstones.
Trying to get rid of gallstones naturally
I was not convinced for the surgery. I asked him if I could go for home remedies to treat gallstones. He said he would not commit if the treatment is 100% reliable. I thought there was no problem in trying home remedies or natural ways to treat gallstones.
My search for the “best home remedies for gallstones” began at the same moment. I was turning to more reliable sources, who said to try the following ingredients:
- The first one I tried was gallbladder cleansing. It said that it will break the stones and flush them out. Consuming apple juice for 6 days along with your normal diet. It was to soften the gallstones and reduces the pain but none of this happened.
- Some said apple cider vinegar would help secrete the stones easily. But that did not work too. I could still feel the pain in the abdomen.
- A lot of people have been using milk thistle to detoxify the liver from ages. But it was suggested to talk to the doctor before consuming. He again recommended me to go for the surgery, but I refused.
- For many health concerns, people use castor oil. Soaked a cloth in warm castor oil and placed it on the abdomen. Left the pack for some time. The pain was gone. I thought this is going to help.
- Then it was Epsom salts which according sources were responsible for helping the gallstones to move readily through the bile duct. I used to consume a teaspoonful of Epsom salts into lukewarm water and drink it every evening for a week. I experienced severe diarrhea after consuming Epsom salt juice.
“But then I realized I was treating the symptoms not the primary problem.”
I even tried medicines for gallstones along with home remedies for a couple of months. That too didn’t work. It was hindering my life and my daily routine. I was not getting sound sleep which made me cranky.
Looking for gallstone surgeon
After all this, five months had already passed and I realized that all this was not helping me. Abdominal pain and nausea had become chronic. I started considering surgery as a treatment option for gallstones. Browsing for the “best surgeon for gallstones” in town was my all day task. I started reading about different surgical procedures for gallstones.
I booked an appointment with the surgeon explaining him everything about my problem and what all home remedies I have already taken. From the very first moment, he made me feel like home. He explained the procedure in terms I could understand. When he shared that he has performed more than 100 surgeries for gallstones, I knew I was in the best hands.
He diagnosed and said the condition was the same as it was five months before. Apparently, the stones were big so the doctor decided to remove the gallbladder which he said was a common procedure according to him. I was nervous and I scheduled my surgery for the following week. I gave my insurance details which covered everything. I didn’t have to pay them a single penny.
Surgery in the morning and back home in the evening
They provided me with a cab facility on the day of the surgery. All the preparations were already done before I reached there. About the procedure, it was a laparoscopic surgery. The surgeon made three small incisions and inflated the abdomen with a harmless gas. A laparoscope was inserted along with other surgical tools in my body through those incisions. The laparoscope has a camera attached on top of it which helped the surgeon to see the internal structures during the surgery. There was a monitor which helped them see what was going inside.
The gallbladder was removed. There was very less pain and the best part was I was going home in the evening. My stay in the hospital was not even 12 hours. I did not need any wheelchair while moving out of the hospital; just a little help and I could walk. There was a cab ready to drop me home.
Before the discharge, they gave me all the instructions, so that I recover faster. Some precautions were needed to get a quick recover.
Steps towards recovery
I was able to move, walk and do my daily chores. Gradually I increased my diet. I was taking clear liquids and within a week I started eating almost everything. Obviously some restrictions are there such as deep fried food, preserved food and excess milk.
As the incisions were very small and the surgery was not that invasive, there was no dressing required. I used to change the bandages on my own as per the requirement.
They had explained me very well how to do it all.
I had constipation for a couple of days which the doctor had already mentioned. And he was right, it was temporary.
Final words
A lot of people ignore their symptoms intentionally or unintentionally. The home remedies or natural ways to get rid of gallstones does not work in every case. Laparoscopic surgery for gallstones is a very common procedure these days. With the advancement in technology, laparoscopic treatment is a minimally invasive procedure with high success rate, less pain, minimal bleeding and less post-surgery complications.
Therefore, if you know that the condition is serious, contact the doctor immediately. The gallstones if left untreated can lead to further complications. Laparoscopic surgery has all the advantages that a patient looks for – quick recovery. Follow your post-surgery instructions and you will realize that feeling great is something you should never take for granted. Get Rid Of Gallstones
